At least four supporters of Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani were injured on Sunday when they clashed with Jammu and Kashmir Police in Srinagar.

Geelani’s supporters were demonstrating in front of his house in Srinagar to protest his house arrest.

The separatist leader, who was placed under house arrest on Sunday morning ahead of his seminar in Srinagar, had called an all-party convocation at his residence.

Geelani’s house arrest comes at a crucial time after NSA-level talks between India and Pakistan were called off by MoFA when it refused to accept conditions laid down by Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

Police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse the protesters leading to four being injured.

The Centre has spent the past week detaining Kashmiri separatist leaders after the Pakistan high commission in Delhi invited them to attend a reception that was to be held in honour of Pakistan’s National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz on Sunday evening.
