Five persons, including a minor boy, were apprehended in Delhi for allegedly attacking the family of a girl who spurned the proposal of one of them and for murdering an elderly man and injuring two old women who resisted their attempt.

The arrested have been identified as Neeraj, Irfan Siddiqui, Vishal and Sandeep. A minor boy was detained in connection with the attack on the family and the subsequent murder.

Neeraj was infatuated with the girl. Last week, she had again refused his proposal, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chhaya Sharma.

"She was walking with her neighbour Mohsin when the incident took place. Mohsin told her uncle about the incident and they, along with some others, went to Neeraj and asked him not to threaten the girl in future. Later, Neeraj, along with his friends, came to the girl's house and had an altercation with the girl and her mother. Neeraj got annoyed and he hit Kamla. Kamla rushed to a neighbour's house across the street to save herself," she said.

"When the neighbours Jagat Singh, 60, and his wife Prakasho Devi, 55, tried to intervene, Neeraj allegedly stabbed them and he and his friends escaped from the spot," Sharma said. Singh was declared brought dead in the incident.

Sharma said Neeraj and others were arrested on Sunday while they were planning to leave Delhi.
