Following a directive issued by the Supreme court earlier this week prohibiting tainted glasses on all kinds of vehicles throughout the country, the Delhi police assisted by local police challaned 4,915 cars, taxis, RTV's on the first day itself.

While the highest number of challans 1371 were carried out in the southern range of Delhi, the lowest number of people were penalised for defying the Supreme Court order 510 in the Eastern district. The number of vehicles challaned in the central range, northern range and western range were 1,162; 942 and 930 respectively.

" he number of cars challaned were 4,868, 45 taxis and two RTVs. We have already cautioned the public about removal of sun screen from the glasses forthwith. The campaign would be intensified in next few weeks and hence the people should heed to our request and keep the glasses of the cars free from black screen," said a senior official of Delhi traffic police.

The court had exempted company-fitted screens. Not only the vehicles were challaned, but the black screen was ripped off the offending vehicles.
