Resident doctors and medical students in Maharashtra called off their six-day-old strike on Sunday after an assurance by the state government to meet their demands, including increasing the number of post-graduate seats.

"The state government has agreed to meet all our demands and promised to increase the number of seats for post graduation courses within a month," Maharashtra Association

of Resident Doctors spokesperson Ravikant Singh told PTI.

"The state government has also given an assurance on improving the infrastructure of various government hospitals at the earliest," he said.

The agitation was called off after the doctors, who went on strike on April 15, met Principal Secretary (Medical Education) Amitabh Chandra and Head of Directorate of Medical Education and Research W B Tayde.
