An ailing woman's husband and son have made an appeal at the Patna high court to allow her to die.

They have also demanded that Bihar Governor Buta Singh grant permission for euthanasia.

Tarkeshwar Chandravanshi, along with his son Suraj, demanded that his ailing wife Kanchan Devi be allowed to die.

Kanchan Devi has been comatose for the last five years. She has not opened her eyes nor has she shown any signs of recovery in last five years.

The Patna high court had dismissed a public interest litigation seeking mercy killing for Kanchan in 2001.

The court dismissed the PIL filed by Tarkeshwar on the ground that a court would not allow the death of a person and that the plea was inconsistent with the notion of a welfare state.

"Death is better than this life and we are all praying for her death," Suraj told rediff.com.
