CVC penalises 130 officials for alleged graft

One hundred and thirty officials of different government departments were slapped with major penalty by the Central Vigilance Commission for their alleged involvement in corruption.

Of these, a maximum of 29 employees were of Syndicate Bank, nine each of Canara Bank and Punjab National Bank, eight in State Bank of India, seven of Bharat Coking Coal Ltd and six each in Life Insurance Corporation of India and State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur.

According to the Commission's monthly report for October, five officials each of UCO Bank and Vijaya Bank, four officials of Delhi Development Authority and three each of

Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Bank of India, Indian bank, Indian Overseas Bank and Ministry of Home Affairs were also punished.

The anti-corruption watchdog has effected a recovery of Rs 39.74 lakh after technical examination of public procurement including works being carried out by government departments.

The CVC has received a total of 1,366 complaints, including some from whistleblowers, during the month alleging corruption by government officials.

"The Commission is deeply concerned over continuing delay in filling the post of Chief Vigilance Officer in State Bank of Travancore," the report said.
