The Centre has started a headcount of people of the minority community employed during the last one year in all its departments as part of review of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's new 15-point programme for welfare of minorities.
The department of personnel and training has asked all central government departments to send details of minority people employed during April 2014 and March 2015 to it.
"The reasons for decline in the percentage of recruitment of minority communities' candidates as compared to previous year's data may also be intimated," an order issued by the DoPT to all central government ministries said.
They have been asked to give details separately of the total number of employees working under them, number of people employed during the year and minority people employed during the year in a proforma. The ministries have been asked to give details on Group A, B and C separately, it said.
The data on recruitment of minority between April 1, 2014 and March 31, 2015 was sought from ministries. In addition to the five communities already notified as minority communities viz Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Zoroastrians (Parsis), it may be ensured that data relating to Jain community candidates are also taken into account in the annual consolidated data, the DoPT said.
Information in respect of the central public sector undertakings may be sent to the department of public enterprises and not to DoPT, it said.
The persons appointed on transfer on deputation may not be included in the report. "The report should be furnished in consolidated form and merely forwarding the reports received from various divisions or offices to this department may be avoided," the DoPT said.
There are about 48 lakh central government employees working in various central government departments.
