The Rajasthan high court has passed an injunction that no changes would be made in NCERT textbooks in the current academic session.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Anil Dev Singh and Justice Harbans Lal gave the order, while hearing a Public Interest Litigation filed by an educationist T N Bhardwaj and a student against the proposed introduction of changed NCERT books.

The petitioners contended that mid-session changes in textbooks would create problems for students.

Replying to the petition, senior advocate of the central government M C Sharma Dausawala told the bench that there is no proposal to effect the changes in textbooks from current academic session and the changes would be made only from academic session 2005-2006.

Union Human Resources Development Minister Arjun Singh has already announced in Parliament that the changes would be made from next academic session, Dausawal told the court.

Taking note of his assertion the court issued the injunction that no changes would be made in NCERT textbooks in the current session and posted the case for next hearing on August 27.

Meanwhile, NCERT on Thursday filed an application in the court to become party in the case.

The HRD ministry in its June 12 order had sought to the remove the alleged distortions in the NCERT books during the previous NDA rule and formed a three member committee to suggest necessary changes in them.
