The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday claimed that the Congress was trying to "lure Muslims with the false promise of protecting the Babri mosque" and asked the community to "beware" of a party which has no concern for its betterment and views it as a mere vote bank.

"The Allahabad high court has already put its seal on the fact that the disputed site at Ayodhya belongs to Lord Rama's temple. Some people have challenged the matter in the Supreme Court and we shall be waiting for the verdict.

"But the Congress is, in the meanwhile, playing its vote bank politics and trying to lure the Muslims with the false promise of protecting the Babri mosque", BJP national president Nitin Gadkari told reporters.

Gadkari said, "The Muslim community must beware of the Congress...a party which has no concern for its betterment and views it as a mere vote bank".

The BJP president lambasted the United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre for "ignoring the actual needs of the community which is reeling under acute poverty and is unable to reap the benefits of economic progress on account of lack of modern education".

"Thousands of acres of Waqf property is lying in disuse across the country. I had written to the prime minister suggesting that the government should intervene and take the initiative for setting up technical institutes on the lands so that members of the community, especially youth, could acquire skills that are necessary to be successful in a  highly competitive world", he claimed.

"I have neither received a reply nor are there any visible signs of the government's intention to do something constructive.

"The Congress has been known for its retrograde vote bank politics and the party's character is being reflected in the government's inaction", the BJP president alleged.
