The wife of Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, who was killed in a gunbattle with Indian Mujahideen [Images] terrorists, will be given a "suitable" appointment in the Delhi [Images] police on compassionate grounds.

The government has also announced that Maya Sharma, the inspector's wife, will be awarded liberalised pension equal to the last pay drawn by the special cell officer.

"Sharma's wife will be appointed in a suitable post in the Delhi police besides giving an ex-gratia payment of Rs 15 lakh," Delhi police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said.

The 41-year-old officer served the city police for 19 years before falling to the bullet of heavily armed terrorists in a fierce gunbattle at a house in south Delhi on September 19.

The officer's family will also be given 12 months salary as death or retirement arrears and 10 months salary as leave encashment.

An amount of Rs 30,000 and premium and interest, which Sharma paid for the Central Employees Insurance will be given to the family, Bhagat said.

From the Delhi Police Welfare Scheme Bhagat said, Rs 3 lakh and Rs 2 lakh insurance from the UTI salary link account will also be paid to the family.

Considered an encounter specialist and posted with the elite anti-terror squad special cell, Sharma was a highly decorated officer with seven gallantry medals to his credit, including President's Medal for Gallantry.

During his meritorious service, he was instrumental in the killing of 35 terrorists and the arrest of another 80 militants.

At least 40 inter-state gangsters also fell to the bullets of Sharma who was part of a team, which meant terror for criminals. He also arrested another 129 gangsters.
