May 20, 2008 20:17 IST
India's External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee discussed Indo-Pak ties, including the composite dialogue process, with former Pakistan premier and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday.
Mukherjee, who met Sharif soon after arriving in Islamabad on a two-day visit, told Sharif that India is looking forward to working with the new Pakistan government, according to the PML-N Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq who was present in the meeting.
Haq quoted Sharif as telling Mukherjee that the two countries should improve their ties while focusing on resolving the Kashmir issue.
Any solution to the issue should be acceptable to India, Pakistan and the Kashmiri people, Sharif said.
Sharif was accompanied by senior PML-N leaders Chadhury Nisar Ali Khan, Ahsan Iqbal and Haq while Indian High Commissioner Satyabrata Pal was with Mukherjee.
Mukherjee also met Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and was scheduled to hold talks with Awami National Party leader Afsandyar Wali Khan.
