A college student was killed and several others injured in a clash between supporters of CPI-M and Trinamul Congress at Nakkatigachh in Cooch Behar district, the police said.

The two sides clashed on Wednesday night in which the student identified as Debabrata Pramanik (22) was killed.

CPI-M leaders claimed Pramanik, a student of Tufanganj College, was their supporter. Two Trinamul Congress supporters, Pran Kumar Barman and Brojendra Barman, were admitted to a hospital with bullet wounds.

Both parties have called 24-hour bandh in Tufanganj-I block on Thursday to protest against the incident.

District magistrate Rajesh Kumar Sinha said prohibitory orders had been imposed in the area to maintain order and the police are patrolling the troubled area. Intermittent clashes have been continuing in the area since Trinamool Congress defeated CPI-M in panchayat elections.
