Ravi Shankar Prasad, spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party, has said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's [Images] statement that nuclear weapons could fall into wrong hands needed further elaboration.

Adressing the media in New Delhi on Tuesday, Prasad said this was of particular importance as a similar statement was issued by National Security Advisor M K Narayanan in Munich two months ago. Prasad said that such a statement coming from the Prime Minister's Office needed to be taken seriously as it involved issues related to national security.

The PM had told the media that the nuclear technology could fall into the hands of terrorists and had asked for greater vigilance to ensure non-proliferation of sensitive equipment and material.

The BJP sees the PM's statement to as the beginning of lobbying for a change in legislation to usher in a POTA-like law to deal with terrorism.
