The cops say there is plenty of information to be obtained out of Sameer and several rounds of questioning will give them a clearer picture.

The police also feel that he had attended several Students Islamic Movement of India meetings across the state and was actively involved in the recruitment of youths both in Karnataka and Kerala into SIMI. Sameer is said to be one of the treasurers of SIMI.

Sameer was first arrested for his role in the Surat riots case.

However, he was granted bail on the pre-condition that he will report before the police station.

Since he is originally a resident of Bangalore he was asked to report to a police station in Bangalore itself.

However in the month of January 2008 he reported before the station for the last time was not seen since then.

It is suspected that he went into hiding following the arrest of Nasir, Asadullah and Asif. Investigators claim that Sameer had attended several SIMI meetings in Karnataka along with these persons.

Sameer prior to being picked up was last seen along with Yahya Khan during the time of the latter's arrest.

He, however, managed to escape, following which a manhunt was launched.

Sameer's detention will be of interest to the cops of both Mumbai and Hyderabad.

According to a person by the name Junaid who was picked up for his role in the train blasts, Sameer had information regarding the incident.

A narco analysis test conducted on Junaid also revealed that Sameer had information about the blasts. It is also said that he had knowledge of the Hyderabad blasts.

In Bangalore, Sameer, an aluminium contractor had associated himself closely with Khan.

Sameer who is in Bangalore for the past one year allegedly recruited  several youth into the SIMI movement along with Khan.
