An autorickshaw driver received bullet injury after passengers allegedly fired at him from their country-made pistols following an altercation, the police said on Sunday.

After some altercation between the passengers said to be north Indians and rickshaw owner Yogesh Pandharinath Shinde on Dindori-Nanashi road, one of the passenger fired some rounds from his pistol when one hit Shinde, the police said.

The driver was rushed to a private hospital where he was operated upon and the bullet was removed from his stomach.

Irate villagers of Valkhed staged a road blockade demanding arrest of those involved in the incident and burnt a motorcycle belonging to the police.

They also dug road to stop vehicular traffic.

Additional force was rushed to the spot and a man has been detained for the firing, the police added.
