Dr Amit Kumar, the mastermind behind international kidney racket, who was brought to New Delhi by a team of the Central Bureau of Investigation headed by the superintendent of police, was produced before the CBI magistrate Sanjeev Jain at his residence in Gulabi Bagh in New Delhi on Sunday.

Sources said the CBI has asked for 12 days of remand for the man dubbed as 'Dr Horror', but the details of the investigations would be known after a press handout is issued by the official spokesperson.

Dr Amit Kumar was arrested by the Nepal police on February 7 on the basis of a Red Corner Notice issued by Interpol at the request of the CBI.

The Ministry of External Affairs had taken up the deportation of Dr Amit Kumar through the Indian embassy in Kathmandu at the CBI's behest. The Nepalese authorities have extended exceptional cooperation in the deportation of Dr Kumar.

The CBI took over the investigations in the kidney transplantation racket case from the Gurgaon police on Saturday.

CBI officials dodged hundreds of mediapersons, who had been camping at Delhi's Indira Gandhi [Images] International Airport on Saturday and managed to sneak the accused out through the Haj terminal.

Kumar was grilled through the night by various teams of the CBI to extract confessions and find out details of the kidney racket that he had been running for years.

More than 12 persons, including some doctors, have been arrested by the Haryana and Muradabad police in connection with the racket. Those arrested will be handed over to the CBI to help them in the case.
