The two IPS officers of Gujarat -- D G Vanzara and Rajkumar Pandiyan -- arrested in
the fake encounter case will be suspended soon, an official said on Wednesday.

Vanzara, director general (border range), Pandiyan, superintendent of police(intelligence), will be put under suspension in accordance with police rules, the official in the state home department at Gandhinagar told PTI.

The official, however, refused to elaborate why there was a delay in suspending the arrested officials.

A retired senior Gujarat police officer said as per Bombay Civil Servants Conduct rules and also the Gujarat police manual, any government servant who has been arrested and has been in police custody for 48 hours stands suspended and a suspension notice should have been issued to him.

Both Vanzara and Pandiyan were arrested by the Gujarat CID crime alongwith the SP of Alwar, Rajasthan, Dinesh Kumar M N on April 24 in the fake encounter killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh who was shot dead on the outskirts of Ahmedabad on November 2005.

All the three officials are now on a four-day police remand till May 5.
