TN bypolls: EC bans publishing of exit polls

The Election Commission has banned the publishing of opinion and exit polls from 1700 IST on June 24 till the polling for the by-elections to the Madurai West Assembly constituency gets over on June 26.

Campaign for the polls would come to an end on June 24 and the polling would be held on June 26.

An official release said results of the opinion poll conducted should not be published, publicised or disseminated in any manner from 1700 hrs on June 24 to 1700 hrs of June 26.

The result of exit poll conducted should not be published from 0700 hrs to 1700 hrs on the polling day.

It said any organisation or agency conducting any opinion or exit polls, while publishing the result, must indicate the sample size of the electorate covered by such polls and geographic spread of survey.

They should also provide the details of methodology followed, likely percentage of errors, the professional background and experience of the organisation and the key professionals involved in the conduct and analysis of the poll.
