Shiromani Akali Dal stalwart Parkash Singh Badal on Tuesday dismissed suggestions that his son and party parliamentarian Sukhbir Singh will be his successor.

"In politics nobody is successor. One has to work hard. At the end of the day, hard work pays in politics," Badal said after casting his vote at his home turf Lambi.

Badal said corruption cases registered against him and his family members during the Amarinder Singh regime were 'false and fabricated.'

Badal, who is locked in a direct contest against his cousin Mahesh Inder Singh of Congress from Lambi, exuded confidence that incessant rains at several parts of the state will not dampen the spirit of voters from casting their franchise.
