With little rains since Saturday, the flood situation in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday showed signs of improvement with the water level in some rivers receding, official sources said in Lucknow.

The toll this season due to flood-related incident stood at 122.

While the water level in Ghagra river started coming down in Elgin Bridge, Barabanki district, the same in Rapti is decreasing in Balrampur and Basi, they said.

However, the water level of Ganga was rising in Varanasi, Ballia, Ghazipur and Mirzapur.

The situation in about 1,100 marooned and 2,200 flood-ffected villages in 20 districts has started improving with army and PAC personnel assisting in relief and rescue operations.

Shravasti, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Gonda, Baharaich, Ballia, Gorakhpur and Barabanki were the worst affected districts.
