Did Rahul cross the line on Pakistan?

April 16, 2007

Congress member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi has set off yet another political storm with his election speech in Uttar Pradesh.

Days after his remark that the Babri Masjid would not have been pulled down had a member of the Gandhi family  been in power at that time, the Gandhi scion has once again set the cat among pigeons by his statement in UP on Sunday that it was his family that broke up Pakistan.

The Battle for UP: Complete Coverage

His statement which runs counter to India's official line that it does not interfere in Pakistan's affairs already has Islamabad outraged. Gandhi's remark is proof of India dabbling in its affairs, Pakistan has charged.

Which begs the question, in the heat and dust of politics is Rahul Gandhi losing sight of the larger picture? Is he getting carried away by the crowds he sees in election rallies? Has he crossed the line this time with his remark on Pakistan?
