A first information report was registered on Saturday against senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders Vinay Katiyar and Sahib Singh Verma by Jammu and Kashmir police for their statement announcing monetary rewards to civilians killing militants.

Katiyar and Verma have been booked for "making provocative statements" and "inciting communal passions" under Section 123-A and 153-A of the Ranbir Penal Code in Nowabad police station in Jammu, Deputy Inspector General of Police Niaz Mehmood told PTI.

Katiyar and Verma had announced a reward of Rs 1,00,000 each to any civilian for killing a militant and Rs 2,00,000 to a civilian's family if he laid down his life fighting militants.
