Geelani arrested in J&K

Chairman of the breakaway faction of Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani was on Wednesday taken into
preventive custody as he was heading towards Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir [Images] to address a gathering, official sources said.

Geelani, who was scheduled to address a congregation at Mandi, Surankote and Mendhar towns, was taken into custody in the outskirts of Poonch town, 230 km from Srinagar [Images], they said.

The firebrand separatist leader arrived in Jammu on June 1 on a week-long visit to border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.

He was taken to the police station and would be released in the evening, sources said.
