Indian and Chinese soldiers held a friendship meet at Bum La, a border town in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang district, as part of confidence building measures undertaken by both sides, defence officials said today.

Since the Chinese aggression in 1962, which saw hostilities in the Tawang sector, efforts have been made by both sides to improve relations. At the meet, which was held on May 30, the Indian side led by Brig Abhay Kumar received their Chinese counterparts at the Heap of Stones.

A cultural programme was also held. The Chinese soldiers visited with their families and children and savoured Indian delicacies. They also brought delicacies of their cuisines that were served at the gathering, the officials said.
