Seven killed, 8 injured in insurgency-related incidents

Seven persons were killed and 8 others, including 7 army men, were seriously injured in separate insurgency-related incidents within Manipur and area near the state border on Monday, official sources said.

Six militants of Zomi Evolutionary front were killed by activists of rival Zomi Revolutionary Army in a factional fight in Churanchandpur district of state.

A ZRA activist was also injured in the clash, the sources said.

Meanwhile, Manipur insurgents ambushed an army convoy of 58th Gorkha Rifles in interior Bishenpur district, seriously injuring 7 army personnel during the day, sources said, adding that the 7 armymen were taken to Regional Institute of Medical Science Hospital in Imphal for treatment.

In another incident, insurgents ambushed a security convoy of Assam Rifles at Jirighat, about 200 metres west of the Manipur border town of Jiribam, killing an Assam Rifles havildar identified as Shiv Shankar of Uttar Pradesh, the sources said.
