Advani's comments hypocritical: CPM

May 19, 2005 17:13 IST

Describing Bharatiya Janata Party chief Lal Kishenchand Advani's diatribe against Communists as hypocritical, the Communist Party of India-Marxist on Thursday said the former deputy prime minister is rattled by the Left parties' demand for a probe into the Centaur Hotel deal which allegedly benefitted people connected with the BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

"Advani's diatribe against Communists in his address to the CII is on expected lines...what has rattled him is the demand of the Left to investigate the Centaur Hotel deal because such an investigation will bring out the racketeering in the sale of public assets to benefit persons connected to the RSS and BJP," a CPI-M politburo release said.

Addressing a Confederation of Indian Industry meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday, Advani had warned the ruling United Progressive Alliance government that its Communist allies would prove to be a 'liability' in achieving any good for the country.

"The party was of the view that a man who himself was charge sheeted in the Ayodhya case and who manipulated the CBI as home minister to get himself acquitted was now advising the UPA government on good governance," the release said.

"It was also amusing that a person who has led a perpetual boycott of Parliament and who has adopted the most negative and confrontationist approach against the UPA government should now adopt the hypocritical stance of
advising the government of how to fulfil its duties," the release added.
