Pakistan has arrested 72 Indian fishermen for allegedly fishing in Pakistani waters.

Reports from Karachi on Sunday said the Maritime Security Agency arrested the fishermen on Saturday night. Their trawlers and some two tonnes of fish were also seized.

Islamabad had recently released 529 of the 800-odd Indian fishermen jailed in Pakistan. The latest arrest will take the number of Indians in Pakistani jails to 245.

India and Pakistan are currently taking efforts to release fishermen of the other country in their captivity as a goodwill gesture.

There are over 150 Pakistani fishermen in Indian prisons.
