Summanwar is new military intelligence chief

Lieutenant General Deepak Summanwar on Tuesday took over as the new Director General of Military Intelligence at the Army headquarters.

A Doon School alumnus, Summanwar saw active operation in the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

He commanded an infantry brigade in Rajasthan and a mountain brigade on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir [Images] during the Kargil conflict in 1999.

Having the distinction of commanding a division in Kargil during Operation Parakram, he is a recipient of the army chief's commendation card for Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka [Images], Vishisht Seva Medal for his command of a brigade in Kargil operations and Uttam Yudh Seva Medal for Operation Parakram in Kargil.

Summanwar is presently the Additional Director General, Public Information, in the army.
