A senior Kolkata police officer said no ransom was paid for her release.

The 21-year-old was found on Friday night around 11 pm and handed over to the family after some questioning early in the morning on Saturday, DIG (CID) Rajiv Kumar said.

The girl was recovered from Kakurganchi area in north Kolkata and raids are still being carried out to catch her abductors, police sources said.

Rama's brother, Ramesh Jhawar, confirmed that no ransom was paid for her release.

Rama was kidnapped by four armed men from the satellite township of Salt Lake City around 8 am while on her way to college.

Asked whether the gang was linked to a spate of kidnappings in neighbouring Bihar in the past couple of weeks, the DGP said: "We are looking into all aspects but it is too premature to say anything at this stage. Investigations are on."
