February 03, 2005 21:56 IST

Newly appointed Army Chief, General Joginder Jaswant Singh, will visit Jammu and Kashmir on Friday to take stock of the security situation and counter insurgency operations.

This is Gen Singh's first visit to the state after taking charge, defence sources said.

He will visit the forward areas in the state and interact with field commanders at the Srinagar-based 15 Corps of the army, the sources added.

The new army chief will also be apprised about the various goodwill operations being undertaken by the armed forces in the state.
