Special team set up to probe IISc attack; suspect's sketch released

The Bangalore police have formed a special team headed by an officer of inspector general of police rank to investigate the December 28 terrorist attack on the Indian Institute of Science, a top police official said Friday.

The special team will have a deputy commissioner, three assistant commissioners of police, five inspectors of police and other supporting staff, City Police Commissioner Ajaykumar Singh told a press conference in Bangalore.

He refused to divulge the names of officials of the special team, saying, "Let us leave it here and not press for more information."

Singh said the team has been sent to some other states and declined to specify the places of visit.

M K Puri, an emeritus professor of Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, was killed and four persons were injured in the attack

Meanwhile, the Bangalore police Friday released the "sketch" of the suspected militant who fired indiscriminately at scientists at the IISc campus.

The computer generated sketch has been made on the basis of description by eyewitnesses at the IISc, City Police Commissioner Ajaykumar Singh told reporters.

The police have been questioning IISc staff since Thursday about the attack.
