Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Wednesday toured flood-hit areas of Raigad district and informed the people that the government had decided to increase compensation from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 for the people affected by landslides and floods.

The chief minister also visited hospitals where the injured have been admitted.

Several persons were killed in a massive landslide at Jui village last week and relief could not reach them immediately as the village was totally cut off from the district due to floods.
