Two persons have died in rain-related incidents while 50 families have been evacuated to safer places after a compund wall collapsed on a chawl below it, the police said.

Sanjay Mane was electrocuted on Sunday while he was moving files from his office located in the jurisdiction of Kasturba police station while Usha Gholap met a watery grave near Wadala after rain water entered her residence, the police said in Mumbai on Monday.

Gholap was unwell and hence could not move out, police said.

In another incident in south Mumbai, a compound wall of Modi building situated on a hill caved in at Tardeo on Sunday.

However, no injuries were reported, police said adding, some 50 families staying in a chawl below it were relocated as a precautionary measure.

Police said water logging has been reported at Milan subway, Kurla deport junction, Andheri subway, Kumariya junction, Umarshi Bappa Chowk, Hindmata junction and King's Circle areas of the city.

Meanwhile, police has appealed offices to allow the staffers to go home in batches and not detain them until the office hours end at 5 pm. This is being done to avoid the peak hour rush, the police said.
