Mehbooba gives clean chit to Zargar

September 18, 2003 00:10 IST

People's Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday gave a clean chit to Jammu and Kashmir Agriculture Minister Abdul Aziz Zargar after Chand Khan, an accused in the Akshardham case, told interrogators that the attack was planned in the minister's house.

Mehbooba said there were a number of people in the valley who had fled their native homes due to militancy and if any one used a deserted house to plan an attack, the owner should not be held responsible.

Asked if J&K Chief Minister and her father Mufti Mohammed Sayeed would accept Zargar's resignation, she said it was up to him.
