BSP will not join Centre: Mayawati

May 19, 2003 19:32 IST

The Bahujan Samaj Party will not join the National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre, party chief and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati said on Monday.

"All such reports appearing in a section of media are far from truth and imaginary," she said in a statement in Lucknow.

Media reports are agog with speculation that a BSP representative might be inducted into the Cabinet in the impending reshuffle to be carried out by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

"Some vested interests have been working overtime and spreading rumours regarding the possibility of the BSP joining the Union Cabinet every time the Cabinet is either expanded or reshuffled," she said. "There has been no change in the party's stand on this count."

"The party's stand is clear that it would extend its full support to the Union government from outside but would not join it," she said.
