President may travel by train

May 14, 2003 17:05 IST

President A P J Abdul Kalam may travel by train on May 30 to Harnot, Bihar, to inaugurate a railway depot.

The railway ministry in coordination with the President's secretariat is chalking out plans for the journey, official sources said.

"The final plan will be ready in a couple of days as discussions are still on and everything is in the preliminary stage. The options are to take the road route or rail route. But being a railway function, it is felt that rail journey will give it that touch of originality," the sources said.

The last President to travel by train was N Sanjeeva Reddy in 1977.

Harnot is in the Barh Lok Sabha constituency of Railway Minister Nitish Kumar.
