Close on the heels of a baby swapping case in a government maternity hospital in Hyderabad, another such case was reported in Karimnagar district in Andhra Pradesh.

J Rajeswari (20) and her husband Rajaiah lodged a complaint at the Godavarikhani police station in Karimnagar district on Saturday alleging that their baby boy was swapped for

a baby girl, Karimnagar police told PTI over phone on Sunday.

In their complaint, they said Rajeswari delivered a male child on May six at a private hospital in Godavarikhani.

The newborn was underweight and was kept in the Intensive Care Unit. After four days, the hospital staff handed over a baby girl to the parents.

Some villagers of Chinnatoondla village in Malhar mandal also staged a dharna in front of the hospital alleging that a male child was swapped.

On the basis of the complaint by the parents, the police registered a case against the hospital and blood samples of the baby girl was sent for a DNA test, police added.

Meanwhile, the police said there was 'some progress' in the investigation into the baby-swapping case involving a government maternity hospital at Nayapul locality in Hyderabad.

"We have interrogated some staff members of the hospital and there is 'some progress' in the probe, Additional Police Commissioner A K Khan told PTI in Hyderabad.
