Police free abducted medico,
two abductors shot dead

March 28, 2003 14:26 IST

The Uttar Pradesh police on Friday secured the release of a doctor after a pre-dawn encounter with his abductors near a sugarcane plantation in Ghaziabad.

Two of the abductors were killed in the encounter.

Inspector General of Police (Meerut zone) Karamvir Singh said police confronted a car carrying the abductors and the doctor, Atul Shetty, at Nistolibridge at 4 am.

The kidnappers opened fire on the police. The cops retaliated and killed two kidnappers on the spot, he said.

Shetty was kidnapped from Modinagar on Thursday when he had gone there to pay his electricity bill.

One of the dead abductors was identified as Satish, a resident of Haridwar.
