Five Pakistani soldiers killed in border firing

March 18, 2003 21:23 IST

Five Pakistani soldiers were killed and one of their posts damaged across the Line of Control in a retaliatory action by Indian troops in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, defence sources said.

The Pakistani troops targeted Khari-Karmara, Kalsian, Ajote and Digwar with mortar shelling, they said.

The Indians retaliated and the exchange between the two sides continued for several hours, the sources said.

On the Indian side a junior commissioned officer sustained injuries, they said.
