J&K cop mistakenly kills
Rashtriya Rifles jawan

June 15, 2003 17:34 IST

A jawan of the Rashtriya Rifles was killed and another injured when a special police officer 'mistakenly' fired on an RR patrol party in the forests of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir early on Sunday, official sources said.

The SPO of the Jammu and Kashmir police was on night guard duty at the Chaktaroo police post in Poonch district.

He observed some movement in the nearby bushes around 0200 IST.

Suspecting the presence of militants, the SPO fired from his light machine gun on the patrol party killing one sepoy on the spot and injuring another, the sources said.
