The toll in the oppressive heat sweeping Andhra Pradesh for the past 19 days shot up to 1,065 on Tuesday, with 45 deaths since Monday evening.

While Nalgonda now tops with 192 deaths so far, the toll has risen sharply to 175 in West Godavari district, 152 in East Godavari and 138 in Guntur.

The relief commissioner's office said details on Tuesday's casualties were being collected from the districts. He said the
toll was likely to rise.

Hyderabad Meteorological Centre Director C V V Bhadram said severe heat wave conditions continue in many parts of Telangana and in Krishna and Prakasam districts in south coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Similar conditions are being witnessed in Anantapur, Chittoor and Kurnool districts in Rayalaseema region and in Rangareddy and Nizamabad districts in Telangana.

Maximum temperatures, however, fell at a few places in Rayalaseema and also at one or two places in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The day's highest temperature of 48 degrees Celsius was recorded at Hanamkonda, about 150 km east of Hyderabad.

The weather office has warned that severe heatwave conditions will prevail in the south coastal districts of Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam and many parts of Telangana in the next 48 hours.

Heat wave conditions will continue in parts of Rayalaseema. Mainly dry weather will prevail over Telangana and Rayalaseema, while isolated rains/thundershowers are likely to occur over coastal Andhra Pradesh.
