July 06, 2003 13:58 IST

Ramjanmabhoomi Trust president Mahant Ramchandra Das Paramhans suffered a heart attack on Sunday morning at his ashram in Ayodhya and was admitted in a heart care hospital in the city.

The Mahant initially complained of dizziness, sources said.

Das had a heart attack earlier last month and he had to be airlifted to Lucknow where he was admitted in the Sanjay Gandhi PGI for almost a fortnight.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad media in-charge Sharad Sharma told PTI from Ayodhya that a team of heart specialists were being rushed to Faizabad from Lucknow.

Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party President Vinay Katiyar told PTI in Lucknow that the Mahant could be shifted to the state capital after being examined by the specialists.

Meanwhile, senior civil and police officials have reached the hospital where the Mahant has been admitted.
