Mumbai police seek deportation of Hamza

January 30, 2003 17:33 IST

The Mumbai police have sought the deportation of Lashkar-e-Tayiba militant Abu Hamza from Dubai, who is the alleged brain behind the December 2 Ghatkopar bomb blast.

Joint Commissioner of police (crime) Sridhal Vaghal said it is not easy to get the 40-year-old accused to India due to the international protocol involved and it may take a lot of time.

According to police sources, Hamza alias Abdul Bari had left his native city of Hyderabad for Dubai with his family about eight years ago and reportedly came in contact with the Pakistani-funded outfit in Dubai.

Police claim he conspired with Mohammad Altaf, who was recently deported from Dubai, to carry out the blast at Ghatkopar.
