Ghatkopar blast accused remanded to police custody

January 10, 2003 17:41 IST

Imran Rehman Khan, 33, the prime accused in the Ghatkopar bomb blast case, who was deported from Dubai, was remanded to police custody till January 17 by a special court on Friday.

Imran was produced in the court of designated judge A P Bhangale, who allowed him to undergo medical examination, but turned down his plea for home food and a meeting with wife.

However, the court allowed the accused to meet his lawyers in jail.

Imran had allegedly masterminded the December 2 bomb blast in a BEST bus in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, in which two persons were killed and 31 injured.

On his arrival from Dubai on Thursday night, the police arrested him under the Prevention of Terrorist Act.

The judge also directed prosecutor Rohini Salian to file a report on the efforts made by the police to trace absconding accused Khwaja Yunus Sayeed (28), who had escaped from custody on January 7 after the police jeep in which he was being taken to Auranganad overturned.
