Jaswant Singh's name may be proposed for a medal January 09, 2003 21:02 IST There is a proposal to recommend Union Finance Minister Jaswant Singh's name for a medal for his role as external affairs minister during the Kargil crisis. Senior army officials confirmed that such a proposal was pending with the Army Headquarters. If the recommendation is made and is accepted by the government, Singh, who served as a Major in the famous Central India Horse Armoured Regiment, will become the only civilian to receive such a honour. The armed forces honoured the Kargil heroes with two types of medals -- the gallantry awards for expectional bravery and awards for meritorious service in operational planning. It was not immediately clear what type of medal the finance minister would be honoured with. More reports from Delhi Read about: Assembly Election 2003 | Attack on Parliament
