Two cops in dock for killing armyman

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna | February 11, 2003 00:54 IST

The Bihar police on Monday ordered the arrest of two policemen and suspension of two in a case relating to the killing of an army jawan in a fake encounter.

An investigation by Superintendent of Police (Patna Rural) Amit Kumar had revealed that they had killed 23-year-old Amitesh Sharma, who they alleged was an army deserter, in Paliganj Baazar area last week.

Sources said that the policemen, in order to make it look like a genuine encounter, had placed a revolver near Sharma's dead body.

Sharma's killing came a month after the police shot down three students in Patna. The killings, allegedly in another fake encounter, had sparked protests in many parts of the state.
