Iraq rejects Powell's claims

February 06, 2003 05:50 IST

Rejecting allegations made by US Secretary of State Colin Powell, Iraq on Wednesday said his statement to the Security Council was incorrect and poorly sourced.

Iraqi Ambassador Mohammed Aldouri told the Security Council that the inspectors, who have conducted 575 inspections in 321 facilities and collected samples from urban and rural areas, factories, farms, universities and production facilities, have found no evidence of prohibited weapons.

Iraq is free of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear, biological or chemical, for the last one decade, he said.

Rejecting allegation that Iraq has mobile biological weapons production facilities, he said the inspectors have not found any evidence to that effect.

He also denied Iraq has any links with Al Qaeda or any other terror network.
