December 31, 2003 20:15 IST

A man who posed as a doctor to marry 11 girls and vanished with their cash and jewellery has been arrested, police in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, said on Wednesday.

Moses Albert, 42, of Pragasapuram selected girls who were finding it difficult to get a match, the police said, adding he had cheated people to the tune of Rs 20 lakh.

After taking note of prospective brides from matrimonial columns in newspapers, he used to go their house and fix the marriages, they said.

He used to stay with the girls for a few months before vanishing.

He was nabbed on Tuesday following a complaint from a woman whom he married on December 19.
