Bihar DGP sacked for speaking against politicians

Bihar's Director General of Police D P Ojha, who dared to criticise the state's politicians, was on Saturday sacked just two months before his retirement.

The move followed a cabinet meeting on Friday, where it was decided that departmental proceedings should be initiated against Ojha for his "intemperate" comments against politicians.

Last Friday, Ojha had said political power in Bihar has gone into the hands of anti-socials.

Ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal president Laloo Prasad Yadav on Friday had said it was unbecoming of a senior bureaucrat to speak like a politician. "Rather than speaking his mind out, the DGP should concentrate on delivering the goods as the police chief," he had said.

Ojha, a 1967 batch IPS officer, said the government action was a fallout of his sustained campaign to break the politician-bureaucrat-criminal nexus in the state.

He said he will challenge his dismissal in the Supreme Court.

W H Khan, DGP, civil defence, will replace Ojha.

Commenting on Ojha's removal, Laloo on Saturday said: "We have tolerated him for very long."
