Invite us to form govt in UP: SP to governor

August 25, 2003 19:24 IST

The Samajwadi Party on Monday said Uttar Pradesh Governor Vishnu Kant Shastri should invite the party to form the next government in Uttar Pradesh.

"The Samajwadi Party is the single largest party in the State Assembly. Other opposition parties are supporting us. Therefore, the governor should invite us to form the government," SP state general secretary Shivpal Singh Yadav said.

He said senior SP leaders were in touch with leaders of other parties.

When asked whether SP would stake claim to form the government, Yadav said it would be decided in the party's parliamentary board meeting to be held in the next two or three days.
